“EACH PERSON WHOSE LIFE IS HONOURED HERE WILL BE PART OF CREATING A TRULY SPECIAL PLACE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME”

In early 2020 Melbourne funeral directors, Troy and Liddy Upfield purchased the estate and continue the work by its past owners. Plans are underway for a new Chapel, Arts and Culture Centre, and further reflection spaces around the lake.

The Robertson family established the estate in 1840 – it was one of the earliest settlements in the district. As the Robertson children had families of their own, Wooling Hill came to resemble a small village that overlooks the Barringo Valley towards Mt Macedon.

The Wooling Hill Memorial Estate was opened in 2000 by developer Wayne Davies. In 2009 Roger, a Wooling Hill director, purchased the estate with his partner Helen becoming custodians of this historical piece of land. The Robertson family cemetery still stands at Wooling Hill, marked in the fashion of those times, by Italian cypresses and a hand-made post.

A SUSTAINABLE LEGACY

Ecologically sustainable practices within the funeral industry have been the topic of ongoing debate. The carbon footprint created by the cremation process versus that which is created by burial interment is comparable. However, cremation continues to lead the way in consumer choice. That’s why it is central to the Wooling Hill ethos, that we utilise sustainable practices such as regeneration of new tree growth to offset the inevitable eco-footprint we leave behind.

COMMUNITY AND EVENTS

Wooling Hill supports local community. In the latter part of 2020 we will be offering community events to local schools, and to learners of all ages to appreciate our native flora and fauna and the wonderful ecosystem on which it is supported. At the heart of our philosophy, we aim to bring community together and provide opportunity for reflection, education and unity.
